hover over image to zoom

From the painting by Sir Edwin Landseer, 'Islay, Tilco, a Macaw and Two Love-Birds", this inkstand modelled as the begging Islay. In excellent and totally original finish, Islay is cast in bronze and finished in silver standing on a brass socle finished in a gold-tinted lacquer. England circa 1860.

h:6.5 in x dia:4.75 in

Queen Victoria adored Islay, training him to beg for bits of food, which he skilfully demonstrates in the portrait by Landseer. Both Islay and Dash , (the second terrier in the painting), are buried at Adelaide Cottage, Windsor Castle.
