A Rare Chamberstick

A rare, mid eighteenth century, heavily cast and substantially proportioned brass chamberstick with a lift-up extension for use when the owner arrives at their chamber, a snuffer at the side.

A pair similar but in steel are held by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, illustrated in Domestic Metalwork 1640-1820 by Rupert Gentle & Rachael Field,p.175.
