Sculptor's Stand

An excellent example of a 19th century sculptor's stand, substantial, solid dark oak, the legs cut from timber 3 inches thick, the planks a solid 1 inch thick; the top 1 1/4 so. Adjustable in height through the winding of the large wooden wing-nut and threaded stem, an iron fixing nut ensuring the chosen height. Made in a traditional manner, similar to 18th century English oak furniture with mortice and tennon joints secured by square pegs in round holes.


Probably French, circa 1870.


Dimensions: Highest 54.25 in; lowest 40.25 in.

The top 17.75 inches square.

The legs 27.25 inches apart.
