This firm was the largest manufacturing silversmiths in England outside of London, Birmingham and Sheffield and it was their output that kept the Exeter Assay Office busy during the period this pot was made. The firm of silversmiths was originally established in Bristol by William Woodman at the beginning of the 19th century and remained based there throughout the century. They were at White Lion Street, Pentonville, London for a short time in the 1860s.
