hover over image to zoom

A set of three typically fine Indian miniatures painted on ivory:

A view of the Taj Mahal on the banks of the Yamuna River; a slightly unusual view showing the pair of identical red sandstone buildings that flank to the tomb, one of which serves as a mosque.

The marble and red sandstone minaret of Qutb Minar built by the founder of the Mamluk Dynasty in Delhi, Qutb ud-Din Aibak,

And The Moti Masjid, within the Red Fort complex in Delhi. The present painting shows the mosque with its gilded copper domes which were probably lost after the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

The three miniatures are painted on an ivory sheet and within hardwood frames with gilded brass bezels, painted around 1850.
