Capt. Thomas & Mrs. Radley of Rockville County Cork

Pair of Irish portraits; Captain Thomas Radley of the Grenadier Company, 27th Royal Cork City Militia, and his wife Alicia Radley (nee Lindsey, daughter of Henry Lindsey of Mishel/Peake).

These portraits have been produced as full size portraits by the Irish artist Benjamin Tartarine Leader after miniatures by fellow Irishman, Frederick Buck of Cork. Signed by the artist lower left, within good rosewood veneered moulding frames period to the works, circa 1860.

Benjamin Tartarine Leader was the son of John Leader, M.D., J.P. of Keale, Co. Cork (1807 – 1880) and Margaret, eldest daughter of Capt. Thomas Radley.

Provenance: Monks Hall, Syleham, formerly home to John ‚’J’ Leader; presumably ancestor of B.T. Leader.
