An Early Brass Chamberstick
To light your way from one place to another, perhaps most often to your bedchamber.
This fine and somehow charming example is cast, early, with a rippled socket reminiscent of an earlier trumpet-based candlestick. The casting of the socket thin on one side and now worn through and away leaving the thing to endure a large hole in its side. Furthermore, there is a piece of the foot rim broken way and lost.
It is, however, far too nice a thing to be consigned to auction as a failed find.
Probably English, probably circa 1700; certainly lovely.
