A Fine Early Victorian Snuff Shoe

Made with a cobblers’ know how, the pins to the shoe’s sole authentically positioned whilst a twisted and flattened wire make a good job of suggesting the shoe’s welt seam. Three buttons securely hold over the shoe’s vamp.

These snuff shoes are sometimes dated and when so to around 1840. The hinged lid of this example carries a design of a crowned queen, perhaps the new Queen Victoria, and so made during the year of 1838.
