Mezzotint Portrait of Edward Southwell Esq.

Edward Southwell (1671-1730) was considered a diligent and skilful administrator in his time.He was elected to the Irish parliament in 1692, serving in a succession of positions being made Secretary of State for Ireland in 1702.Soon after he was elected to the Westminster parliament before being made Chief Secretary to the newly appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, the second Duke of Ormond; a post he held for 10 years.

Offered here is an excellent example of the mezzotint odne by Smith after the portrait painted by Geoffrey Kneller, published around 1709.

Within a good copy of a period print frame, ebonized and with a gilt sight edge.
