Copper Kettle
A copper kettle dating from the first half of the 19th century.
Made from heavy gauge metal, the sides now a little pitted from many decades of boiling water, the upper surfaces, including the lid with its acorn finial, smooth from polishing yet with a deep ‘bronzy’ colour.
Beneath the handle the coppersmith has filed the Roman numeral VIII to indicate this is a kettle of one gallon capacity.
English circa 1830.
