Napoleonic Prisoner of War Dominoes

A wonderful game of dominoes made and sold by a French Napoleonic Prisoner of War anytime around 1800.

The two long sides of the case are decorated with a rhombus whilst the sliding lid is something of a triumph. The uppermost cover is decorated with compass work producing a design of a climbing, flowering plant coloured red and green, beneath which is another lid serving as a score-board; polychrome painted with three ships-of-the-line. Contained within the body of the box is a full compliment of dominoes up to double eights.

There is a small compartment at the end for dice; just one present. Made using the bones from the prisoners’ provisions and sold at the prison market.
