Architectural Element: A 17th Century Lunette Grille

The Jessant-de-Lis is defined in heraldry as a leopard’s head amid a fleur-de-lis, the upper points arising from the top of the leopard’s head whilst the lower points emit from the mouth. The leopard’s head is the heraldic device of familiesAdy, Adry, Austie, Cantelow, Cooley, Dawbeney, Leversedge, Prestwick, Tension and Watkins, and as such may be from the family house of any one.
