Engraved with the details ‘PRESTON INVENTOR’. A tuning device, fixed to the head of an English Guitar or Cittern in order to facilitate fine and accurate tuning.

John Preston was a music printer, publisher and seller of prints, seller and maker of musical instruments. He traded alone from around 1774-89, as John Preston and Son from 1789-98 and as Thomas Preston between 1798 and 1834.
