Paktong Candesticks

A somewhat imposing pair of Paktong Neo-Classical candlesticks of oval form with push-up ejector rods, made circa 1780.

Testament to the difficulties experienced by metalworkers when using this material are the several neatly plugged casting flaws to be found in various places about these sticks. They are neatly finished beneath according to silversmiths and brass workers best practice.

The anomaly of what appears to be a loose nozzle, yet is in fact fixed, suggests that this pair of candlesticks may in fact have been made in China, albeit at the same time as their English counterparts.
