Ralph Wood-Type Stag & Hind

A pair of Staffordshire pearlware pottery models of a Stag & Hind, circa 1775, finely modelled and perhaps attributable to Ralph Wood, after original designs by the Frenchman working at that pottery, John Voyez.

The modelling, particularly in the faces of each creature, leaves them magnificent and the application of translucent glazes in specific areas, rather than simply dipping the whole model into a single colour, allow for greater sensitivity and a more life-like appearance.

The stag’s antlers restored and the tips of the hind’s ears.

Stag 6 inches wide. Hind 5.75 in wide.
