Rocaille Based Crane Candlesticks

A pair of bronze cranes standing on rocky bases and holding aloft foliate candles sockets; a bronze crown around their necks.

The cast bronze cranes exhibit sharp after-work to the feathers; the rocaille bases an attractive variation at the base of this model.

English circa 1840.

Cranes have long been a symbol of vigilance and will often appear in heraldry with one foot holding a stone. They are emblems of immortality and longevity, vigilance, contemplation, prudence, piety, meditation, and chastity.
