Sharpening Steel

A remarkable survivor, this small kitchen steel dating from early in the 18th century if not from the end of 17th century.

The steel now smooth from use, the hardwood handle skillfully wrapped in a sheet of thin brass, revealed at the end where the covering brass has been worn away from holding and using; the wrought iron suspension misshapen and worn thin in places.

13 inches length.
