Steel Pocket Box
An elliptically shaped steel pocket box, perhaps a tinder box, an engraved striking panel to be found underneath with the initials H F over an E, the lid with a cast boss, finer than the rest of it, and perhaps somewhat earlier in date.
Probably German 18th century.
