Gentlemans’ Club Post Box

A fine and large lobby post box from a gentleman’s club following the design of architect John Wornham Penfold, his design of pillar post box first seen on England’s streets in 1866. Complete with the decorative finial bud on top of acanthus leaves, correctly edged with a running ball detail, carved from honey-coloured oak with brass stringing, black and white enamelled flap and blue leather-lined interior; a drawer for papers and envelopes within the plinth base. English, third quarter of the nineteenth century.
