Whalers’ Whalebone Seam Rubber

A wonderful whalers’ seam rubber made to press home folds to canvas before stitching. Chunky, of wonderful colour bought about by much use and some 200 years of being. At the top, where the hand’s palm would come to bear is engraved a flower device; the blade, slightly dished and finely polished from use, is engraved with the owner’s initials to one side and the date, 1833, to the other.
