William De Morgan Triple ‘B’ Pattern Tile

Tin glazed earthenware polychrome tile decorated with the BBB flower pattern; one of De Morgan’s most popular patterns. The BBB tile was designed by De Morgan for fireplace manufacturer Barnard Bishop and Barnard who offered De Morgan’s tiles in their catalogue to sell as an option for their cast iron fire surrounds. Like many of De Morgans tile designs, the Triple B was first conceived as a design at his Chelsea pottery (1872-1882), and the pattern continued to be in production until the closure of the company in 1907. This particular tile bears the back stamp of the William De Morgan & Co. Sands End Pottery.
